Staff, students and local members of parliament gathered last Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic School to bless and
officially open the new Rockwood elementary school. The blessing was given by Bishop Douglas Crosby, Bishop of the Hamilton Diocese to a full gymnasium which included The Honourable Liz Sandals, President of the Treasury Board, Mr. Ted Arnott, MPP for Wellington-‐Halton Hills, and Guelph-‐Eramosa Mayor, Chris White.
The night kicked off with Principal, Jeanette Ondercin welcoming everyone to the event. Following the formal blessing ceremony, Ondercin introduced The Honourable Liz Sandals, President of the Treasury Board who presented Ondercin with a certificate from the Minister of Education marking the official opening of the school. Sandals also spoke about the provincial funding for new schools program which helps build new schools in areas of high growth and improve the condition of existing schools. Wellington Catholic Board Chair, Marino Gazzola and Director of Education, Tamara Nugent, also addressed the crowd.
